Gateway to the Edge: SolidSense with Wirepas Mesh

The Rise of the Edge Gateway

As we move forwards, more and more solutions call for better connectivity between an ever growing number of end-devices. So much is possible today that was not even imagined just a few years ago, and the name of the game is the network optimized by edge computing.

Sensors that can detect almost anything in the physical world, complex algorithms and processing power to make sense of everything, and of course the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning that autonomously find new ways to understand, predict and optimize anything that’s connected.

The engine behind the automation and IoT revolution (making all of this possible) is edge computing, and the edge gateway at its heart.

SolidSense with Wirepas Mesh

At SolidRun we’ve designed and developed the SolidSense edge gateway, built to overcome the needs of tomorrow’s complex networks.

SolidSense is a gateway device offered in both outdoor and indoor configurations, based on the NXP i.MX6 Arm® Cortex® A9 processor and featuring up to 2GB DDR3, USB 2.0, MicroSD, Modbus, 2 x UART headers, OTG-UA, Ethernet, WiFi, LTE, and BLE (up to 5.0).

But we didn’t stop there, we’ve partnered with Wirepas to offer network designers and developers a complete solution with a variety of connectivity options and an easy integration with Wirepas Mesh. This powerful wireless mesh is the culmination of 10 years of research in the Tampere University of Technology in Finland, and since 2010 Wirepas has been working on perfecting their complex software architecture.

The software framework on the SolidSense gateway communicates seamlessly with the end sensors and devices, making it easy to optimize complex or large local networks, and enhance connectivity with the gateway.

Wirepas Mesh takes network optimization to the next level. The framework provides the devices connected to the network with decentralized, autonomic and intelligent communication with the gateway. End-devices, such as sensors, become intelligent with the ability to decide on the optimum frequency and energy usage with which to communicate with the gateway and network in real-time.

Another key feature of the Mesh technology is adaptive multi hopping, making every device in the network a possible router for communication. Devices choose the best way to send information with the option of using multi hop routing, the role of each device isn’t predefined – instead it changes automatically in real-time, depending on the needs of the network around it.

SolidRun is a partner and licensee of Wirepas, thus enabling shipping of SolidSense gateways pre-flashed from factory with Wirepas software – simplifying the development process and business model.

    Hi!

We are a Finnish company doing digitization of construction site. We are interested in your Edge Gateway. How much does it cost and what is its IP-classification? We are building a Wirepas mesh network in a construction site. We are also Wirepas Licensee.

    Hi,
I would like to use a single board computer for some IoT application, running debian linux or similar. But I want this board to have some kind of u-blox hardware on it (like the NINA wifi/bt module). Do you have any options, except the expensive Edge gateways. Thank you.
