Use Cases

Edge servers are becoming essential infrastructure for modern enterprises because they deliver the high-performance, low latency processing required not only for AI inference and automation, but also for a wide range of non-AI tasks such as data filtering, protocol translation, local storage, network optimization, and real-time control of industrial equipment. In distributed environments like factory floors, cell towers, retail stores, and remote logistics, hubs edge servers handle mission critical workloads that must operate reliably even when cloud connectivity is limited. To ensure this reliability, Baseboard Management Controllers (BMCs) play a pivotal role by enabling out of band management, allowing IT teams to monitor hardware health, reboot systems, and perform remote repairs even when the operating system is unresponsive, or the power is off. This capability reduces costly onsite maintenance, improves uptime, and ensures that both AI-driven processes and non-AI operational tasks continue running smoothly.

The new holistic approach by new server incumbents focuses not just on cost and energy-saving but claims that multiple smaller nodes with less powerful processors can be more efficient in running some applications and sharing workload vs. several central nodes based on one powerful processor.
