Edge AI for 5G Network Infrastructure & IoT Platforms
Use Cases
Use Cases
5G is reshaping the business landscape by unlocking new revenue opportunities and improving operational efficiency across industries. Enterprises are increasingly deploying private 5G networks to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity for smart manufacturing, logistics hubs, and large campus environments. Network slicing is becoming a critical differentiator, enabling service providers to offer customized, performance-guaranteed connectivity for sectors such as healthcare, automotive, and financial services.
At the same time, the convergence of edge computing and AI-driven automation is lowering latency and enabling real-time data processing, supporting advanced use cases like autonomous systems and immersive digital experiences. Beyond terrestrial networks, non-terrestrial networks (NTN), including satellite-based connectivity, are expanding 5G’s global reach and opening new opportunities in remote operations and large-scale IoT deployments. Together, these developments position 5G as a foundational technology for digital transformation, driving innovation, and long-term competitive advantage worldwide.
In this section, we showcase real-world 5G & networking infrastructure applications powered by SolidRun Edge computing solutions.
These examples highlight how SolidRun services deliver long-term value to OEMs and system integrators Edge computing and networking platforms and development services.

One of the major challenges in the IoT ecosystem is ensuring global connectivity for NB‑IoT devices in areas where terrestrial networks fail, such as remote, rural, and maritime regions. By deploying a constellation of 3GPP‑compliant Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. New providers enable standard IoT devices to transmit data from virtually anywhere, bridging the connectivity gap for critical sectors. Industries that benefit most include agriculture (smart farming and crop monitoring), logistics and transportation (asset tracking and fleet management), energy and utilities (pipeline and grid monitoring), maritime (vessel tracking and ocean data), environmental monitoring (wildlife and climate sensors), and emergency services (disaster response and remote health monitoring).
Product: LX2160A Computer on Module
In satellite networking, base stations (often called ground stations or gateway stations) are terrestrial facilities that serve as the communication link between satellites in orbit and the core network on Earth. The NXP LX2160A is well-suited for satellite base station networking because it combines high compute power, advanced packet processing, and secure connectivity features—all essential for handling satellite-to-terrestrial traffic.
Modern networks are becoming increasingly complex due to high traffic volumes, virtualization, and encrypted communications, making it challenging for IT teams to maintain visibility and troubleshoot effectively. Blind spots in monitoring can lead to performance issues, security risks, and compliance problems. The solution is a comprehensive network visibility approach that includes hardware and virtual access points for reliable traffic capture, intelligent packet brokers for filtering and distribution, and advanced packet analysis tools for deep inspection. This integrated strategy ensures complete, non-intrusive visibility across physical and virtual environments, enabling faster troubleshooting, stronger security, and optimized performance.
Product: Ryzen V3000 CX7 Computer on Module
The Ryzen V3000 series delivers high-performance computing for embedded, networking, storage, and edge applications by integrating up to 8 Zen 3 cores, DDR5-4800 memory, and 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes in a compact, power-efficient design. Complementing this, COM Express Type 7 modules provide a scalable, modular platform with robust IO and rapid time-to-market, making them ideal for edge computing, industrial automation, networking, and embedded server deployments.

In remote environments, reliable connectivity is essential for sustained business operations, yet conventional networking approaches often fall short due to scarce infrastructure and unstable links. BGP routers offer a strategic alternative by enabling seamless connectivity across multiple service providers, optimizing bandwidth utilization, and providing built-in redundancy to reduce downtime. When implemented through cost-effective, energy-efficient platforms with advanced capabilities such as route aggregation and dynamic failover, BGP solutions help organizations ensure operational continuity, support mission-critical workloads, strengthen security, and minimize service disruption, while keeping costs under control.

Product: LX2-Lite System on Module
The LX2162A System-on-Module (SoM) delivers impressive computing power in an ultra-compact form factor—measuring just 58 × 48 mm, about one-quarter the size of a typical COM Express Type 7 module. It’s built around the NXP Layerscape LX2162A SoC, packing up to 16 Arm Cortex‑A72 cores, DDR4 memory, eMMC storage, power management circuitry, and I/O subsystems—all integrated into a rugged, edge-ready package. With 12 SerDes lanes supporting up to four 25 GbE or one 100 GbE port, along with multiple PCIe Gen3 lanes, USB 3.0, Ethernet, and industrial interfaces, this module is tailor-made for high-performance networking, edge computing, and secure gateway applications where space is at a premium.

Analysts estimate the increased capacity density in 5G could be ×1000 compared to the current 4G/4.5G networks. This will require smaller coverage areas per cell site, leading the mobile grid to become far denser than it is today based on additional macro-cells as well as small cells located in various spots. The challenge is to provide advanced wireless backhaul solutions with higher capacity links supporting non-line-of-sight challenges.

A tactical communication bubble is a rapidly deployable, self-contained wireless network—often leveraging 5G or similar mobile technologies—designed for military while an emergency services communication bubble is a rapidly deployable, self-contained wireless network designed to provide secure, high-speed connectivity in disaster zones or areas without infrastructure. Both establish a secure, private, ad hoc cellular network that provides high-speed, low-latency connectivity in areas without fixed infrastructure. This coverage enables real-time communication between drones, vehicles, and command posts, while supporting critical applications such as video streaming, AI-driven analytics, and voice communication. Compact and portable, it ensures reliable connectivity in dynamic, mission-critical environments.
