SolidRun and Amarisoft Reveal Arm-Based Cellular Network Solutions

SolidRun and Amarisoft Collaboration Press Release

As cellular networks continue to evolve, engineers and developers working on 4G/5G cellular network solutions now have a new, highly efficient option that reduces the limitations of traditional x86-based systems. SolidRun has partnered with Amarisoft to introduce an Arm-based cellular network solution built on SolidRun’s COM Express 7 module equipped with the NXP® Semiconductors Layerscape® LX2160A and HoneyComb workstation.

This small-footprint, low-power platform offers scalability, flexibility, and a cost-effective pathway to build or test cellular network solutions for various applications, from public networks to private 5G setups.

A Flexible, Software-Driven Cellular Solution

The SolidRun-Amarisoft platform combines high-performance hardware with Amarisoft’s software-defined radio (SDR) and RAN and Core Network software. This setup is purpose-built for engineers who need a configurable, adaptable network solution that can evolve with deployment needs. Amarisoft’s approach enables developers to add features through software updates, simplifying the testing and deployment process and reducing dependency on external accelerators and FPGAs. This streamlined configuration makes the platform cost-effective while still supporting robust performance.

Engineers and developers can leverage Amarisoft’s support for split options (8 and 7.2), allowing compatibility with a broad range of radio units from different vendors. This flexibility facilitates seamless integration with existing infrastructure or creates custom setups tailored to specific project needs.

Key Benefits for RAN and Hardware Solution Developers

For teams focusing on hardware and RAN development, the solution offers significant advantages:

  • Low Power Consumption: Reduces the power requirements of typical network solutions, making it ideal for energy-conscious deployments.
  • Scalability: Supports both private network projects (e.g., for industrial or enterprise use) and large-scale deployments by offering modular, software-driven expansion.
  • Compatibility and Flexibility: With Arm-based architecture, developers can use the platform for a variety of cellular network scenarios without the heavy footprint of x86 systems.
  • Seamless Integration: Supports multiple configurations and compatibility with a wide range of radio units and split options, ensuring a fit for both public and private applications.

Exploring the Vast Potential

SolidRun and Amarisoft recently co-hosted a webinar alongside NXP, discussing the technical capabilities of this Arm-based solution and its benefits for the telecommunications landscape. The session highlighted the platform’s flexibility, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, offering insights into how developers can leverage it for next-generation 4G/5G projects. If you missed it, the webinar recording is available at IWPC Library.
