Breaking New Ground: We Shrunk a 5G Base Station to Fit on an Embedded Board

SolidRun Amarisoft AMD Ryzen 2025 Blog

This compact x86 platform delivers real-world 5G performance at the edge, in the field, and anywhere bulky servers can’t go.
At SolidRun, we’ve always believed that big things can come in small packages, and our latest collaboration with Amarisoft proves it.

We’ve successfully validated a fully functional 4G/5G base station, complete with gNB and 5G Core, on our COM Express Type 7 module powered by the AMD Ryzen Embedded V3000 processor, using our HoneyComb carrier board. No bulky server. No FPGAs. No GPUs. Just a compact, efficient embedded platform delivering carrier-grade telecom performance.

Why This Matters?

5G infrastructure used to mean racks of power-hungry servers and complex integrations. This platform changes that.

Together with Amarisoft’s software-defined RAN and Core stack, we’ve demonstrated that a complete 5G network can now run on a small-form-factor x86 system with:

  • Support for 100MHz bandwidth
  • 4T4R MIMO radio configuration
  • Fully virtualized RAN and Core on x86
  • No need for external acceleration hardware

This setup makes 5G more accessible than ever, ready for use in:

  • Private networks (smart factories, campuses, enterprises)
  • Tactical and defense deployments
  • Edge and remote telecom installations
  • Broadcast uplinks and mobile production
  • Lab testing and education environments

A Platform Built for the Real World

The engine behind this jointly-validated solution is our Ryzen Embedded V3000 CoM module paired with the HoneyComb Ryzen V3000 carrier board. It’s small, scalable, and thermally efficient; ideal for tight spaces and low-power environments where traditional servers just don’t fit. This combo maintains the x86 compatibility developers have been asking for, without the overhead.

This is more than a proof of concept. It’s a real-world validation that shows embedded systems are ready to take on serious 5G workloads, and win.

Showcased at AMD Tech Day

We recently brought this platform to the AMD Adaptive & Embedded Computing Tech Day in Bengaluru, where it turned heads as a fresh take on 5G infrastructure. It’s part of a bigger shift toward smarter, smaller, more flexible solutions at the network edge, and we’re excited to be leading the charge.
