SolidRun Announces Low Power COM Express Type 7 Module to Simplify and Enhance SDN and NFV Development

Based on Marvell’s OCTEON TX2 CN9132 quad core infrastructure processor, the new CEx7 CN9132 COM module and ClearFog CX CN9K carrier offer powerful networking and security features with virtualization support.

March 4th, 2020 – SolidRun,a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance edge computing products today introduced the first platform based on Marvell’s OCTEON® TX2 CN913x SoC, including the CEx7 CN913x COM Express type 7 module and ClearFog CX CN9K evaluation carrier board. The new platform offers a high performance, energy efficient and flexible solution designed for demanding network and security applications and is a latest addition to SolidRun’s family of Arm®-based COM Express type 7 modules.

With full virtualization capabilities, range of connectivity options and high-end networking, the CEx7 CN913x module is well-positioned to support SDN and NFV solutions, including virtualized security, SDWAN, SDN switch control plane, mini edge server and more. CEx7 CN913x offers a highly optimized performance-power-price ratio in comparison with competing x86 based COM Express modules on the market.

CEx7 CN9132 is a feature-rich network-centric module, based on the Marvell OCTEON TX2 infrastructure processor family with an Arm Cortex-A72 quad core 2.2GHz processor. It features powerful networking connectivity including high throughput network, storage and security accelerators, 7x PCIe ports, 3x 10GbE ports, 2x USB 3.0, 2x SATA 3.0 and more. It supports mainline Linux, UBoot, Linux Kernel, UEFI, and offers full network virtualization.

“SolidRun’s CEx7 CN9132 platform provides developers and integrators with a flexible modular form factor,” says Sunil Kaul, Senior Director Product Marketing, Infrastructure Processor Business Unit at Marvell. “The COM Express type 7 form factor is an easy to use module for development and deployment especially for networking & security solutions. It shortens the time to market and simplifies product development.”

“The ClearFog CX CN9K evaluation board with the CEx7 CN9132 module at its heart complement SolidRun’s range of powerful flexible networking platforms,” says Dr. Atai Ziv, SolidRun’s CEO. “This is the first product to harness Marvell’s new CN9132 chip, and we’ve designed it around Marvell’s staple networking abilities with a range of connectivity options – making the platform a highly flexible and well-rounded platform.
