Hi

Got my cubox the other day and have not been able to get it to work. No red light but I do get the tty connectionwhen plugging in the serial cable.

Any ideas? Can I return it?

Cheers

Matthew

Serial cable? It has no serial port! Are you connecting it via a network to serial-cable, that will not work.

The RJ45 Ethernet port is only a network port, not a serial-port.

You are suppose to use a MicroUSB of mini b type (note Micro-USB, not Mini-USB) data cable for flashing.

The CuBox is supposedly unbrickable so you just need to flash it corectly via USB (again MicroUSB).

Oh, and do make sure it has power too, as the Cubox can not be powered over USB.

Quote:
Micro-USB, not "Mini-USB", they are not the same, that is why. Micro-USB is a newer standard:

Different usb connectors. From left to right: male Micro USB B-Type, proprietary (not USB), male Mini USB (5-pin) B-type, female A-type, male A-type, male B-type. Shown with a centimeter ruler. Female A-type connector (4th from left) is "upside down" to show the pins.

So what you need to go out and buy is a "Micro USB B-Type" / "Micro B USB" cable, good to have ;)

MicroUSB may not be as common as MiniUSB, but MicroUSB is the official standard for mobile devices.

Well, if tty mounts ok, then you could discard a power supply failure, even I would check it. Another check is to be sure that the serial settings are properly set, but you could also discard this, because at least, you will receive some garbage characters in the console.

one thing with the power supply is I am using an adapter for uk plug socket. The light on the power supply flashes on and off when connected to the cubox is this normal?

Nop!, mine is always light, so maybe it has a short or bad contact, be sure that the dc plug is completely pushed into the socket.

A quick question about the power supply, if i may:
What does the power plug look like?
Is it this one and fixed (afaik Israel standard);

or can i replace the powercord part between the socket and a possible "110-220V > 5V transformer" like i'd do with a laptop power supply? see wikipedia

Point is that you have most likely not bricked your CuBox

(**) Bricking a product (software wise) is a common mistake developers do. The product incorporates features that can recover the system, without the use of JTAG, even if the boot loader was completely erased.

It's impossible to brick them.. this user is doing something very wrong and blaming others instead of asking for help

the plug is like this:

I need an adapter so it fits this:

At the moment when the supply is not plugged into the cubox I get a solid light on it as soon as I plug it in it start flashing. I have never seen the red light on the cubox work.

It might be unbrickable but that doesn't mean it couldn't have an electrical problem?
