For those of you who like to start with a minimal Debian install.
I have placed a smallish squeeze (6.0.4) rootfs at http://domainresources.net.au/cubox/dow ... tfs.tar.xz.
It is 30M in size.
This rootfs was produced via debootstrap on the Cubox.
The package list is small and it boots Debian on the CuBox using the 2.6.32.9 kernel.
(expand the rootfs, add the kernel uImage and lib/modules).

This rootfs has no gui packages installed. It is a quick and easy way to get headless Debian running on the CuBox.

root password is "cubox"

Probably, it is a vanilla rootfs (I have not got to the installer yet).

I tested it from an nfs boot (if it works from nfs it works from anything).

a) copied /boot/uImage
b) copied /lib/modules
c) tar xJf squeeze_6.0.4_rootfs.tar.xz
d) booted

I will add that Wheezy requires a kernel in the 2.6.38 range to work reasonably.

If you try with less you get

Waiting for /dev to be fully populated...udevd[628]: unable to receive ctrl connection: Function not implemented

udevd[628]: unable to receive ctrl connection: Function not implemented
(repeated infinitely)

I think accept4 patch to kernel will stop the messages? Alternativly, on archlinuxarm we Patch udev
https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUIL ... rnel.patch

There are a few ways to fix older kernel/new udev problem.
Best is Rabeeh comes up with a 3.1.x kernel.
Or apply this to Rabeeh's old kernel (I asked him 13th December viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15#p36) https://raw.github.com/archlinuxarm/PKG ... ept4.patch
How easy is that?
Or that other patch I said in previous post https://raw.github.com/archlinuxarm/PKG ... rnel.patch is applied to Debian udev package, I don't think that's going to happen.

thanks.
btw (rant follows), 3.1.7 -> 10 they have busted a few mac80211 drivers. 3.2+ has reports of not booting on a lot of previously ok ARM platforms. I have not yet had 3.2+ kernel boot on anything I have.
Very messy.

Yes, I know. I have avoided updates.
From what I have read, it could be kernel compression method, knod, manually preloading modules, and using mknod here and there. I didn't know about 80211, and not going to try it as I got access points set up.

Can anyone post a download for the uImage containing the Cubox kernel? I haven't found it on Solid-Run's site or wiki. Is is possible to get it in "vmlinuz"-format (like the Ubuntu 11.04 kernel here: wget http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/di ... ot/vmlinuz)?

(Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit here...)

EDIT: no need, got it by compiling the kernel. It's simple and there's a howto at the Solid-run wiki.
