Yokneam, Israel (September 3rd, 2013) With the dream of putting their mini-computer into everyone’s hands, SolidRun has launched its CuBox-i series (http://www.cubox-i.com) with a dazzling $45 price tag on their CuBox-i1 entry level computer. Other members of the series are the CuBox-i2, CuBox-i2ultra and CuBox-i4pro. All are based on Freescale’s i.MX6 SoC series and offer a wide variety of configurations ranging from single, dual and quad ARM processors running up to 1.2GHz.

SolidRun’s open source software model is boosted by the tremendous contribution of the open source community, as well as the SolidRun engineering team. For many open source software packages, work is already completed or in the progress of porting. This includes latest versions of Linux kernel and several of its distributions, XBMC Media Center and much more. Alongside Linux, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is one of the major operating systems supported by the new computer.

    Hi,

    I would like to know if the CPU and GPU specifications are open so that it allows the linux developers to create complete open source “drivers” or it is a closed source CPU/GPU and we will have to include your provided “blob module” in the linux kernel to be able to use all of the features ?

    It can be a real mess to have to use a blob driver, as we can see with the Raspberry Pi which has a closed source CPU/GPU and which doesn’t allow people to use its full computation potential (to do GPU computing, for example)…

    Can you provide a little more insight into the “Multi format hardware video decoding and encoding engine?” Specifically, will it decode and play AVCHD files in realtime?

    The processor is an ARM based processor which is a standard and open.
    The GPU is Vivante GC880 and GC2000 that has a binary user space and GPL kernel driver (mixed). Freescale provides X accelerated drivers and a bunch others.

    Your website would benefit from a feature-comparison table with the Raspberry Pi, since the media generally considers it the dominant player in the sub-$50 Linux market. Show people exactly why and how your computer is better than theirs.

    You say That cubox1 support hd audio dts ma an dolby true hd.
    I have bought 2 cubox and finally They does not support hd audio.

    Can you trY With the cubox i ? Does cubox i really support hd audio.
