I've installed XBMC using the ready-made installer from here: http://www.solid-run.com/mw/index.php/XBMC_on_CuBox

Now I get blank screens and the below kernel log messages:

Code:

Anyone?

Maybe it helps to add some more detail:

  • The hang usually happens pretty soon after X starts, e.g. something like 30s. Also the surface is not warm -- therefore I believe it's probably not a thermal issue
  • The rest of the system is stable -- no hangs/ crashes there
  • uname: Linux cubox 2.6.32.9-dove-5.4.2 #46 PREEMPT Sat Jan 7 12:23:38 IST 2012 armv7l GNU/Linux

Should I try a newer kernel? What do people here usually run? Or should I try to get a refund ;-)

Thanks in advance...

The same happens here. Restarting xbmc fixes the problem but it appears again after a while.

I copied the rootfs from the installer by hand and compiled linux 2.6 from github, but the supplied kernel works. Also I had no luck with video in linux 3.

I haven't tried much monitors often - once CuBox was running XBMC before connecting Monitor, sometimes X starts on the second try. It's not clear to me what XBMC remembers about the last Monitor.

If you see dovefb in kernel log
Code:
dmesg | grep -i dovefb
but no device brought up
Code:
ls /dev/fb*
then boot linux with
Code:
video=dovefb:<xres>x<yres>-<bpp>@<hz> clcd.lcd0_enable=1 clcd.lcd1_enable=0
Can this be done through /sys/devices/platform/dovefb at runtime?

Is it possible to do video without fb?
